My Story

In the summer of 2022 I was 33 and gave birth to my first child. Life was going great and I never expected what would becoming.

At my Annual GYN appointment in October my doctor thought she felt a lump on my left breast, I had just stopped breast feeding the month prior and thought maybe It was from that. ( It turns out my mammogram was completely clear on the left side and It was a blessing in disguise that she felt this “lump”) During my mammogram they told me they needed extra pictures and an ultrasound because they saw a small area on my right side that was suspicious. The radiologist was confident that It was from my clogged duct issues I had while breast feeding but wanted a biopsy to be safe.

Fast forward I found out 2 days after Christmas that I had DCIS in my right breast. I had no lump on that side, It was a complete incidental finding. My son was only 6 months old at the time. I am so thankful everyday I had a mammogram done and It was caught early. I am 7 months post mastectomy and reconstructive surgery and doing good. Cancer does not care if you have a newborn or your age. I always encourage everyone please get your mammograms done and self breast checks, It can really save your life
