On October 29th, 2007, I was doing my breast self-examination and found a lump the size of a golf ball in my left breast. Scared to death, I called a friend.

On October 29th, 1987, my grandmother passed away from breast cancer, so that date is very significant in my life. I went to the doctor and she examined me and scheduled a mammogram the very next week.

During the test I was told that the lump I found was just a bruise from bumping myself in the summer, but that there was a suspicious spot found on my right breast. After a month of tests and biopsies, a lumpectomy was done on December 14th, 2007, the spot on the right side was cancer. I thought I lost my best friend that day.

It was relatively small and the doctor was sure he got it all. I began treatment on February 8th, 2008. Since my diagnosis, eighteen female friends and family have had their mammograms. I will continue to be a major player in the fight against cancer.
