Ennio Carlon

The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Italian Affiliate is proud to present one of its outstanding volunteers— Ennio Carlon. Ennio has served as a cuirassier of the President of the Italian Republic for twenty years. Although he has not experienced breast cancer in his family, he has always felt a strong will to do something for people in need. Now, he is retired and devotes all his time and energies to voluntarism, concentrating his efforts on the causes he deems most meaningful and rewarding, such as the fight against breast cancer.

Ennio was introduced to Komen for the Cure in 2002 through his daughter Chiara, who was an Affiliate staff member from 2002 to 2005. He was struck by the passion and commitment of Komen volunteers and staff members and, sharing so much of his time with breast cancer survivors and co-survivors, he realized that breast cancer is not only a “female” problem, but involves everyone around us. He also understood that there is so much to do to eradicate breast cancer: raising funds, increasing access to the best prevention and treatment options, and offering support to patients and families in daily life.

Although he is shy and shuns praise, he has a cheerful and generous nature, and his role in the Italian Affiliate is really precious. He is always available and willing to do whatever needed: helping with heavy tasks, being responsible for the logistics of all events (especially Race for the Cure® events), travelling throughout Italy to organize health fairs and educational programs, and taking care of Race for the Cure supplies and equipment.

He strongly believes that more and more men should be involved in this cause as active partners of their women, in order to protect their mothers, wives, daughters and friends. Ennio is like a “kind giant” standing by the Italian Komen girls, who feel really secure with him at their side.
