I was diagnosed with breast cancer (dcis) in July of 2016. I remember having a difficult time processing what she said because her voice was cheerful. I was scared and depressed. After a lot of test and meeting with the surgeon, I was scheduled for a double mastectomy. Because of information I gathered and the plastic surgeon, I decided not to have reconstruction surgery. I made sure to walk a lot right after my surgery (walking promotes healing). I healed quick. I tried prosthetics, but it just didn’t feel right for me. I went a different route and I think my chest is beautiful now.
