Starting My Journey
I went in to my pcp for pains in my left breast. I wasn’t worried at all because I’m 32 years old and I knew that generally breast cancer wasn’t associated with pain. My doctor said my breast tissue was more dense than usual so she sent me for a mammogram. I went in to radiology and everything was fine until the radiologist wanted a better view of my right breast. This of course caught me off guard because I went in for problems with my left one. Nonetheless, microcalcifications were found and I was told that I needed a biopsy. It all went downhill from there. My biopsy was on a Monday and I received the call on Tuesday that it was DCIS and invasive ducal carcinoma. I felt like I had been kicked in the stomach. I am young and I have no family history of cancer on either side of my family. I’m the first. My treatment plan includes a mastectomy of my right breast and reconstructive surgery. I’m not sure if it’s spread to my lymph nodes for sure but if that’s the case, I’ll have chemo as well as hormone therapy. I have a great support system and my faith is in the Lord. Pray For me, my husband, and my 3 babies.
