My Breast Cancer Story

The long hot 2002 Summer was approaching me that July 2nd. When I got the word after my yearly mammogram that I had breast cancer.
I was startled at first but it eventually sunk in. My calendar was filling up with
different dates of procedures and doctor’s visits. Then the surgical appointment to tell whether I would have a mastectomy or a lumpectomy. I was lucky that day with the news that I only needed a lumpectomy as my lump was completely contained and the surgeon said she got it all. But I had 3 lymph nodes out of 10 that were positive for cancer. So I had to start chemotherapy along with radiation.
I took one day at a time and was very positive about every step of the way. Completing everything by the following February. Then on to the oral medication for 5 years. I am a survivor since 7/2/2002. God willing and keeping the faith are the positive thoughts I want to share for beating this terrible disease. You can do this also!
