Prescription Drug Assistance

Prescription drug costs can quickly become a financial burden for you and your family. The information and resources below may help.

Health insurance and prescription drug costs

A prescription drug plan may be included in your health insurance policy. If not, you may buy one separately.

Under most plans, you either pay a set amount for each filled prescription (for example, $10) or a set percentage of a drug’s retail cost. Plans often have a cap on coverage.

Medicare and prescription drug costs

Medicare doesn’t directly pay for prescription drugs.

Medicare Part D (Medicare prescription drug coverage) is run by private insurance companies under contract with Medicare.

Medicare Part D offers several prescription drug plans. Before joining one, compare the benefits offered by each plan.
