Hope: The ShareForCures Unicorn

What is ShareForCures?

ShareForCures® is a breast cancer research registry by Susan G. Komen, connecting researchers with information from people who have or had breast cancer. In three easy steps, from anywhere, you can join the research registry and connect your health information to be a part of diversifying data and thus, advancing research and treatment.

When you join ShareForCures, you become part of a team. A community united by the goal of helping scientists make new discoveries faster. And every great team has a mascot.

How Hope Was Born

Billboards, radio spots and ads on your social media feed are all great ways of raising awareness in a time of constant news and updates at your fingertips, but what if you saw a unicorn while you were working out at the gym?

Komen wanted a way for ShareForCures to meet people out in the world — to spark curiosity and bring a smile to someone’s day while also starting an important conversation. That is how Hope was born.

Hope is a costumed, inflatable unicorn whose name was chosen through a vote on Komen’s Instagram stories. Since making her debut, she has brought new energy and joy to ShareForCures, with positive feedback everywhere she goes.

Meeting You Where You Are

Recently, Hope made her first official appearance at the Komen Race for the Cure in Chicago. From the moment participants arrived, Hope welcomed them with open “unicorn arms,” posing for photos and spreading the word about how ShareForCures could be a way for them to continue to make an impact, long after the event is over.

Her magical helpers handed out unicorn headbands that soon filled the crowd. They were more than fun accessories — they were a colorful reminder that everyone has the power to help advance breast cancer research in their own unique way.

Hope’s Story Continues

Hope may bring fun and excitement wherever she goes, but she represents something powerful. Every laugh she sparks, every photo she’s in and every conversation she starts is a step toward stronger research and better treatments. Joining ShareForCures means joining a team that is actively helping to make discoveries that could change the future for everyone touched by breast cancer.
