ShareForCures and the ShareForCures Alliance

Susan G. Komen’s ShareForCures is a breast cancer research registry that connects scientists with real-world data from people who have or have had breast cancer. Since every diagnosis is unique, combining information from diverse individuals in the ShareForCures community allows researchers to uncover new patterns in that information, accelerate discoveries and potentially improve treatments more efficiently.
That’s why Nueva Vida being a part of the ShareForCures Alliance is so important.
Representation Matters
Breast cancer affects people from all backgrounds, yet not every community is appropriately represented in research. Factors such as race, ethnicity, culture and language can influence an individual’s experience, from access to high-quality care to treatment outcomes. Without diverse participation, research findings may not fully reflect the needs of all patients.
Latinos, for example, often encounter additional barriers such as limited access to equitable health care, language obstacles and cultural beliefs that can delay diagnosis or treatment. Including these experiences in research helps ensure that discoveries and advances are meaningful and relevant for everyone impacted by breast cancer.
Nueva Vida is one of the eight organizations in the ShareForCures alliance and is dedicated to supporting Latinos whose lives have been affected by cancer.
Nueva Vida: Supporting the Latino Community
Founded in 1999, Nueva Vida began as a grassroots effort to meet the growing needs of the underserved Latino community affected by cancer in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. Since then, it has grown into a trusted comprehensive cancer support network for thousands of Latinos navigating cancer across the region.
Nueva Vida provides culturally tailored support to ensure that Latino individuals and families can access the resources and care they need, through their innovative evidence-based initiative of cancer care. By addressing barriers such as language, cultural stigma and access to health care, Nueva Vida empowers the Latino community to face cancer with knowledge, strength and connection, regardless of the barriers they face.

Partnering Together
By working together through the ShareForCures Alliance, organizations like Nueva Vida are helping to close critical gaps in breast cancer research and resources. When diverse communities participate in ShareForCures, including Latinos, those individuals help ensure that discoveries reflect the true diversity of breast cancer experiences. The more inclusive the registry, the more impactful the discoveries can be for everyone.
