Tumor Profiling
Transcript
Tumor profiling tests use gene expression profiling tools to provide information about the genes in cancer cells. Sometimes the genetic profile of a tumor can help guide early breast cancer treatment.
Tumor profiling can help show whether some estrogen receptor-positive, HER2- negative early breast cancers are likely to metastasize.
Oncotype DX® is the most common tumor profiling test used in the U.S. Other tumor profiling tests, including MammaPrint® are available.
Oncotype® can help decide whether or not a person needs chemotherapy in addition to hormone therapy to best treat the breast cancer. For example, for postmenopausal women, if the Oncotype DX score is 25 or lower, the use of hormone therapy alone may be considered.
If Oncotype DX® or other tumor profiling is right for you, your oncologist will review your test results with you and discuss how they may guide your treatment plan.
