Dina’s Story: Navigating Breast Cancer One Step at a Time

Breast cancer survivor Dina and her husband Caleb.

Before her breast cancer diagnosis, Dina was focused on her wedding to Caleb and looking forward to their future together – only to find everything turned upside down.

A Breast Cancer Diagnosis

When Dina felt a lump in her breast, she reached out to her doctor. She underwent a series of tests, with a biopsy finally confirming she had stage 1 ER/PR-positive breast cancer.

“I actually learned I had breast cancer the same day as my bridal shower,” Dina said. “That was not how I imagined my day going.” What should have been a happy time was suddenly turned into an overwhelming series of doctor visits, tests and difficult decisions.

Facing Cancer Together

With their wedding just weeks away, everything seemed overwhelming. Caleb helped Dina focus on her appointments and kept her from worry about the unknown. “We really kind of came together and took one doctor appointment at a time,” Dina said. “The unknown is terrifying, but focusing on one appointment, one step, one screening at a time was paramount in my mental and emotional health.”
