Research Findings on the Evolution of Breast Cancer Tumors Could Help Stop Metastasis

Research findings from the AURORA study announced at the 2019 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium provide more information about how breast cancer evolves, from the site of its origin to the metastatic site.

By comparing primary tumors with metastatic tumors, researchers have gained new insight that can be used to hopefully stop metastasis from happening and find better and more personalized ways to treat metastatic breast cancer, once it develops.

The study was led by the Translational Breast Cancer Research Consortium, with support from Susan G. Komen, several Komen Mission leaders and Komen-funded scientists.

Going forward, patients will have the opportunity to enroll in the study and have tumor samples collected in real time.
