Finally, there are things you can do that may reduce your risk of breast cancer.
Make healthy lifestyle choices.
Research has shown that being overweight and gaining weight as an adult are linked to an increased risk of postmenopausal breast cancer. Maintain a healthy weight throughout your life.
Research has also shown that being physically active can reduce the risk of breast cancer, especially in postmenopausal women. So make exercise part of your routine.
Many studies have shown that drinking alcohol increases the risk of breast cancer. The excess risk linked to alcohol increases with the amount of alcohol consumed. Limit your alcohol intake.
Combined estrogen plus progestin menopausal hormone pills are linked to an increased risk of breast cancer.
Studies also show that breastfeeding is linked to a decreased risk of breast cancer (especially premenopausal breast cancer). So breastfeed if you can.
Remember, know your risk. Get screened. Know what is normal for you. And make healthy lifestyle choices.
