Early Breast Cancer Treatment

Transcript

Treatment for early breast cancer includes a combination of various treatments based on the biology of the tumor, tumor profiling results, the cancer stage, and a person’s overall health, age, menopausal status and personal preferences.

Local therapy involves surgery with or without radiation therapy to the breast and nearby lymph nodes.

Systemic therapy aims to get rid of cancer cells that may have spread from the breast to other parts of the body. It can include chemotherapy, hormone therapy, HER2-targeted therapy and other drug therapies. These drug therapies reduce the risk of breast cancer recurrence and improve the chances of long-term survival.

More information about treatment options for breast cancer is available in the Treatment section of the Komen website.
